Sexually Transmitted Infections Definition

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), also known as Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), are infections contracted through sexual contact.

STI should not be considered as shameful diseases, and most of them can be cured if detected rapidly.

When people think of Sexually Transmitted Infections they think AIDS. But it is not only about AIDS: there are other STI which can also cause serious damage (cancer,
sterility, etc.). Because these disease often occur without being noticed (there may be no apparent symptoms), IST can be transmitted very easily.

This is why we refer to them as “infections” because a person may be infected and contagious without feeling or appearing ill.
